Day 4: Le Villeret d'Apchier to Saint-Alban-sur-Limagnole

Day: 4, Miles Today: 13.63, Miles To Date: 42.31

Today was fantastic.

I recovered from my miserable day yesterday and ended my pity party. A good pork chop for dinner in the Gite and a good rest did the trick.

Today was uneventful. In the way that a day walking through the French countryside with a cool breeze & birds singing & not a care in the world is uneventful. I woke up and decided to just put one foot in front of the other, and all of a sudden I’d covered 13 miles.

Here’s a look back at Le Villeret, where I spent the night.

The little coffee shop behind a church where I stopped for a rest and bought a baguette sandwich to go.

I stopped by a field to sit on the ground and air out my feet (very important to do a few times a day) while I ate my lunch.

Stopping by Chapel St. Roch. Built in 1732 and renovated many times since then. A small church that’s still in use today.

Buen Camino!

  5. You look like a Frenchman in the last picture of you in front of the chapel of saint Roch. I had to look him up and learned Roch is the patron saint of Dogs ,dog lovers and The falsely accused. I sent your picture to a defense lawyer friend and he was aware of this saint and said there is a Catholic Church in Mentz Texas dedicated to St. Roch.
    Who knew!
Also, I always switched out my socks mid day to keep my feet dry and cool . That really helps to prevent blisters.
    Onward my friend- Greg.

  6. Ah great day! Beautiful pics! Reading booklet "Scripture Day by Day" seems to fit your day: Isaiah 43:19 "See, I am doing something new! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? In the desert I make a way, in the wasteland, rivers." Amen!

  7. Michael, you are walking yourself into shape both mentally and physically. You will be in top condition by the time you reach St. Jean to go over the Pyrenees. From there on you will cruise.
Wish I was walking with you. Buen Camino and God Bless

  8. On this Fifth Sunday of Lent, our readings invite us to reflect on renewal and transformation. The Prophet Isaiah speaks of God doing "something new," making a way in the desert and rivers in the wasteland. This imagery calls us to recognize and embrace the new things God is doing in our lives. Even as we face challenges, we know that the only way to change is by getting out of our comfort zone. This first reading invites us to embrace the pain that is required to change, knowing that the suffering of the present moment will not last forever and ultimately will help us become the people God made us to be.
